Hull Designations

Federation Navy ship classifications and hull codes. Based on United States Navy hull designation standards, with an S prefix marking a space vessel and distinguishing Federation hulls from the wet navies of Earth.

Corvettes

SPC Assault Corvette
SPCR Patrol Corvette, Research

Two types only. Size and limited independent capability in space restrict the corvette hull to roles no larger vessel can perform. The SPC is the drone control pod for fighter pilots. The SPCR is listed as a survey and communications research platform.

Frigates

Reading a Designation

Class names and hull codes are two different things. The hull code describes the role, what the ship is for. The class name describes the design, which drawings she was built from. One hull code covers many classes.
